"Since 2017, our main objective with the eSports Brazil Award is to recognize, celebrate and consecrate all the actors involved in the growth of this fascinating industry. This year we will make a special commemorative edition, to record 5 years of incredible moments and unprecedented encounters of the greatest heroes of a passionate community that does not stop growing. PeB takes the theme of games to the mainstream, amplifying the recognition of these idols and contributing directly to the professionalism of eSports in the country,” explains Leandro Valentim, CEO of Player1 Gaming Group.
eSports Brazil Award announces 3 new categories
The 5th edition of the PeB will bring news in its categories. For the first time, the award will feature two female categories: Best Female Athlete, in which the best athletes of the year will be awarded, regardless of the sport, and Athlete Revelation Female, which will award the most outstanding athletes who started their trajectories in the competitive scenario in 2020.
“We at the eSports Brasil Award always seek to listen to what the community has to say. This year, we once again held rounds of conversations with great women in the scene and we are very proud to bring these two categories as a novelty for 2021, believing that they will further boost the development of the competitive women's scene,” says Thiago Milhazes, General Head of the Award eSports Brazil.
Also this year, PeB will have the arrival of the category of Best Athlete from Valorant, a game by Riot Games launched in 2020. On the other hand, the category of Best Athlete from Overwatch leaves the award in 2021.
“We are always looking at the development and trends in the scenario. Bringing in the Valorant category is something that makes a lot of sense, given the development of the Brazilian competitive scenario, the emergence of new idols and competitions,” stresses Milhazes.
In 2020, the journalistic coverage of the eSports Brasil Award reached more than 53 million people, contributing even more to the popularization of electronic sports in the country. Now, the perspective is that this number will be surpassed.
