Talking with GMB, Senator Angelo Coronel stated that he had spoken with the President of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (DEM-MG), so that he could put to a vote the Bill presented by Senator Roberto Rocha (PDSB-MA). “Bill 2648/19, of which I am rapporteur, provides for the release of all types of gambling and not just casinos in integrated resorts, such as the one proposed by Senator Irajá. What I reported is much more interesting for the entry of funds into the Union's coffers, both because of the revenue itself and the speed with which the funds will arrive,” he says.
Senator Angelo Coronel stated that he is against the bill that only foresees casinos in integrated resorts, for leaving the other verticals on the sidelines of the process. “I am against the model defined in this project because it is too restrictive and does not include the different segments, which, in the final analysis, are already operating in Brazil without any benefit to society. We are going to fight for the approval of all the modalities.”
“By law, I presented a point of order about the decision of the President of the Senate, since chronologically the first bill to be considered should be the one for which I am rapporteur and later to consider the bill of Senator Irajá. The President has not yet responded to me, but I believe he will review this and put ours to vote as well,” Colonel told GMB.
Furthermore, he said that he has already talked to Senator Irajá in order to seek the unification of the two mentioned projects. “He was willing for us to unify, leaving it to the Plenary to decide whether Brazil will have the legalization of gambling as a whole or just a part. I will defend that all segments are covered, as it will generate more revenue for the Union.”
His concern, in addition to the aspect relating to the total revenue to be generated, is the delay in the implementation of integrated casinos in resorts. “A casino, from approval to construction, implementation and marketing actions to attract tourists, will take a long time to start generating revenue, and it will be small. With the other modalities, which are already running, it will be much more effective and the money will enter the public coffers immediately,” he concluded.
