Boyle is a former board member at accountancy firm Deloitte, is Chairman of the British American Drama Academy, and is a trustee of the Serpentine Gallery.
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport is understood to have selected Boyle, who will be “a more neutral appointment” to the Commission.
An official announcement regarding the appointment is expected to be made at some point this week.
It is understood that Boyle’s previous role as Chief Strategy Officer at Deloitte helped his application for the role, with his reported appointment at the Gambling Commission viewed as “an appointment which would likely be seen as a positive for the betting industry,” according to the Racing Post.
