New “Loteria Rural Verde” is approved in Brazil

This Tuesday (3), Deputy Carla Zambelli read the report to Bill 1587/2021 by Deputy Evair Vieira de Melo (PP/ES) on the authorization of the creation, by the Executive, of the “Loteria Rural Verde” (Green Rural Lottery). The Bill provides that the net income from these new game, as well as the prizes not claimed within the deadline, will be allocated to the National Environmental Fund, for the purposes of financing the Federal Payment Program for Environmental Services (PFPSA). It was suggested to change name to “Loteria Verde” (Green Lottery).

At the extraordinary deliberative meeting this Tuesday (3), CMADS approved Bill 1587/2021, for the creation of the “Loteria Rural Verde” (Green Rural Lottery), with amendments.

Deputy Evair Vieira de Melo's bill intends to establish the “Loteria Rural Verde”, with the objective of funding the federal program of payment for environmental services and gives the Ministry of Economy the responsibility to include the frequency, value of prizes, price of the bets and expenses with costing and maintenance of the operator of the lottery.

It was also read the report of the rapporteur Deputy Carla Zambelli (PSL-SP), in the Committee on the Environment and Sustainable Development, who suggested changing the name to “Loteria Verde” (Green Lottery).

The Federal Program for Payment for Environmental Services was created in January of this year with the objective of putting into effect the national policy for the environmental sector regarding the payment of these services by the Union, in maintenance, recovery or improvement of vegetation cover in priority areas for conservation, combating habitat fragmentation, creating biodiversity corridors and conserving water resources.

In addition to the net income, the prizes not withdrawn by the winners, according to the bill, will be allocated to the National Environmental Fund.
