Mayor announced remote session in February

Deputy Otoni asks Lira for the gaming bill to have a face-to-face vote

Brazilian Federal deputy Otoni de Paula (PSC-RJ) made an appeal to the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL). Otoni asks that the bill that legalizes gaming in the country is not voted on remotely after the recess. Because of the new wave of Covid-19, Lira announced that the sessions will be virtual, but Otoni argues that the agenda is sensitive and should be discussed in person by parliamentarians.

“Gaming legalization in Brazil is a very sensitive topic for us Christians and conservatives. It is a topic that needs to be widely discussed. Therefore, I appeal to the common sense of our president Arthur Lira: if we keep the work back remotely, it is not good to discuss an important PEC like this with the deputies in their homes," asked Otoni.

“We all know that this exists, but it has to exist underground to continue without generating formal jobs in Brazil,” questioned Lira, at the time.

A member of the evangelical bench, Otoni de Paula said that he will vote against the measure. He argues that it is not possible to legalize any activity just because it moves the economy.

“I am against approving gaming in Brazil. The legalization of games will have negative effects on society and the State,” criticized Otoni.
