He comes from the Ministry of Education

Sérgio Calderini is the new secretary of SECAP/ME that regulates sports betting in Brazil

It was published in the Official Gazette this Friday (28), the appointment of Sérgio Ricardo Calderini Rosa as the new secretary of Evaluation, Planning, Energy and Lotteries of the Ministry of Economy. The Ordinance is signed by the Chief Minister of the Civil House, Ciro Nogueira. Sérgio Ricardo assumes the position that had been held on an interim basis by Fernando Sertã Meressi since the departure of previous holder, Gustavo Guimarães.

The new secretary of Evaluation and Lotteries is a career server in the position of specialist in public policies and government management. Until then, he held the position of director of the Directorate of Articulation and Strengthening of Professional and Technological Education at the Ministry of Education (MEC).

Calderini Rosa holds a degree in Mechatronics Engineering from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (1997), a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from the London Business School, University of London (2004) and a PhD in Public Administration and Government (Line: Politics and Economics of Public Sector) by the EAESP of Fundação Getúlio Vargas (2011).

Author of essas ‘Brazil: decentralization, efficiency and vote’, ‘Pre-school in Brazil: Its Impact on Quality of Primary School’, and ‘The impact of project portfolio management on information technology projects’, the PhD in Public Administration speaks three languages (Portuguese, English and Spanish) and has worked in the areas of budget and finance at the Ministry of Economy and the Civil House, in the areas of monitoring and monitoring plans and projects.

He takes over Secap having, among several missions, the task of continuing the process of regulating sports betting. The work is well advanced and according to Secap interlocutors, there are only a few points to be clarified so that the final proposal is presented to the government and the market.

The sector expects the new Secap holder to have the necessary agility to carry out the process of regulating sports betting so that Brazil becomes the regulated reference in the area, since it is one of the largest markets in the world but that still does not have the regulation of the law passed in 2018.
