Régis de Oliveira, former deputy and retired judge

"Jogo do bicho and illegal bingo contribute to the police instead of paying tribute"

Former rapporteur of a bill on the legalization of gaming in the Chamber, in 2010, the ex deputy and retired judge Régis de Oliveira, from Sao Paulo, has been acting in favor of the return of gaming in Brazil, even without a mandate. He advises the Legal Gaming institute (IJL) and also acts at the Supreme Court (STF) in a discussion on the law of criminal misdemeanors. In the “Blog do Noblat” of the Metrópoles newspaper, he assures that there are 400 thousand jogo do bicho operators, which works with the support of the police.

In the discussion in the Chamber about the return of the gaming sector in Brazil, Oliveira circulates through Congress in defense of the Regulatory Framework for Gaming, which had its urgency approved in December and may return to the agenda in this resumption of work. Also former deputy mayor of Sao Paulo, he was affiliated with the PSDB, the former PFL, PMN and PSC.

In a post on his networks in December, he defended legalization and said that in Brazil there are 400,000 jogo do bicho operators in Brazil, a modality that, according to him, works with the connivance of the police.

“The jogo do bicho exists everywhere. We have 400 thousand people who handle bets, who are the controllers. They are illegal. You have to make an agreement with the police not to get arrested. You can find it in any bar in Sao Paulo, in Rio,” says Regis Cavalcanti.

“Bingo too. Prohibited, but it exists a lot in Sao Paulo. The casino too. It has to be legalized. It's a necessity for the country. They contribute to the police instead of paying taxes,” added the lawyer.
