The liberation of casinos and all gaming verticals in Brazil was once again debated in the Chamber of Deputies. With strong opposition from the evangelical bench, the final text has yet to be defined. For now, the initial proposal is being evaluated by the working group created by Arthur Lira (PP), current president of the Chamber.
“We trust that Arthur Lira will forward the agenda to Congress, but there is the timing of how to do this. There is great resistance from evangelical parliamentarians and the argument of a possible diversion of resources. But we have to remember that in Brazil people play informally and the regulation of this will give greater control,” points out Sampaio.
The executive emphasizes that legalization should boost foreign investment in the country, in addition to increasing the number of tourists staying in Brazil. “This is another public profile that can be developed with tourism packages linked to other niches, such as adventure. There is enormous potential to significantly expand demands. I would like the Gaming Law to be processed within the proportionality of population in states such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais.”
The FBHA, together with the CNC Tourism Board, has been developing the Vai Turismo project, which aims to connect institutions and entities in the sector as a way of recommending public policies that help in the sustainable growth of Brazilian tourist destinations. The proposal is to make a national movement to catalyze the resumption and relevance of the segment.
