Governor Rodolfo Suárez began to translate his new strategy and management model into action at the Provincial Institute of Gaming and Casinos (IPJyC), in a context of economic crisis and the search for more sources of work for Mendoza, which implies a change in the policy of closing gambling halls practiced by his predecessor, Alfredo Cornejo. At the opening of the gaming room in San Martín that took place this week, another will be added in General Alvear, with the particularity that it will also have a hotel and shops such as the one open in the East region.
In the southern commune there will be the provisional opening of a room with 212 slot machines in the center of the department in January. However, this will be the previous scenario of the final project, which includes the construction of a hotel and shops that will contain the future casino, on the outskirts of the urban center, in front of the fairground where the traditional Festival of the Livestock of the Arid Zones, on route 188, takes place.
The successful bidder is the company Hotelera Emprender SA, which is owned by Claudio Andreani and who manages the Casino of the Tower Inn & Suites of San Rafael. The group also has shares in the Yancanelo oil company, also in San Rafael, and other hotels in provinces such as Neuquén and Buenos Aires, as well as neighboring Paraguay.
This undertaking will have an investment of $ 474 million (US$ 4.6m) and includes a 3-star hotel with 29 rooms, a swimming pool and shopping centers, and a restaurant. Although the provisional hall will be inaugurated, the one that will be built will have 300 slot machines. All construction, which began with the award deadline last October, will take about 2 years.
On the other hand, the requirement in terms of labor and future employment is that at least 80% of those hired be from Mendoza or with a residence of at least one year. It is expected that in this new venture, 72 direct jobs will be generated.
The new development is not included in law 5,775 enacted in 1991, which allowed the opening of casinos with five-star hotels in Greater Mendoza or four-star hotels in the interior of the province. The IPJyC explains that it is a state casino, that is why the hotel is not of the required category.
However, the IPJyC was satisfied with the hiring of staff at the San Martín casino, which has had 95% of employees from Mendoza.
SUPERIOR GAMING PROJECTS
Suárez's policy seeks to change in a certain sense the mere installation of casinos or gambling halls in Mendoza, since it points more towards larger investment projects, which include the gambling hall itself, either with the installation of a hotel or shopping centers.
The objective is to focus the new developments with new commercial proposals that generate more employment and also that are in accordance with Mendoza's commitment to tourism.
In this way, on Monday this week (3) a room was also inaugurated in the department of San Martín that will have, also in the future, a 4-star hotel and that will create 500 jobs during the construction of the work, and another 315 when all the hotel, gastronomic and commercial activity is carried out, in conjunction with the casino itself.
