In an exclusive conversation with GMB during the recent edition of the Global Gaming Expo, Miguel Ángel Ochoa, president of AIEJA – Association of Casinos of Mexico, said that the event left a good impression due to the recovery of the sector.
GMB – What is your assessment of G2E, which shows so much glamor and glitz?
Miguel Ángel Ochoa – This year's fair was very good after a break caused by the pandemic. Now recovered and twice the size, it is a traditional fair with more than 15 years in Las Vegas. Everyone could see an excellent offer of machines, which is the brain of the event, in addition to other products and services for the gaming sector. This recovery is important for the industry and innovation was seen from all sides.
How is the Mexican casino market doing?
Mexico is fine. We already have 100% of the rooms reopened and jobs recovered. Alongside land-based gaming, online gaming is growing, as are additional offerings such as platforms and payment systems. Today the Mexican market is very attractive and quite consolidated.
In addition to online casinos and sports betting, is the land-based operation recovered?
Yes. The sector recovered and today 90% of the public presence is already a reality. In addition, new rooms have been opened and the market is healthy and growing.
Do the rooms have their physical sports betting areas?
Yes. They all have their sportsbooks and we hope that next month, with the World Cup, will be the climax of the activity. And we have excellent prospects for 2023, which will be an excellent year.
