Sports betting increases in Brazil and Paylivre expert warns about website security

A study carried out by Sports Value pointed out that Brazilians move about R$ 4 billion (US$ 775m) in sports betting per year. Legalized in 2018, the activity still depends on regulation, whose deadline ends at the end of 2022. Marcos Oliveira, CEO of Paylivre, says that “with the increase in cyber attacks, people should pay attention to the legitimacy of the system, check the secure connection of the sites, look for security seals and check the permissions and privacy policies of the applications.”

“The passion of Brazilians for sports is one of the reasons that explains the growth of the betting market in the country. In football, for example, the 20 Serie A teams have some sort of sponsorship from sportsbooks. It is an important income for clubs,” comments Marcos Oliveira, CEO of Paylivre, a fintech that was born to innovate the payments market, facilitating and intermediating the connection between foreign companies and Brazilian customers.

Currently, the law determines that betting companies operating in Brazil are based only abroad and they cannot have physical points of sale, that is, they can only operate through websites hosted on an international domain and that follow the legislation of the country of origin. Thus, Brazilians who have this hobby need to carry out several international financial transactions, a practice that requires care to avoid cyber scams and fraud.

For Oliveira, banks and fintechs must always be aware of new trends, technologies and Brazilian financial activities, so that they can help customers and offer solutions focused on potential markets, prioritizing security. "At Paylivre, we are following all the growth and projections of the betting market, we have already created some payment solutions to help international companies connect with Brazilians and ensure good reliability and usability during the journey of this new passion," comments the CEO.

Paylivre's APIs integrate websites of international companies so that they can offer Brazilian payment solutions on a global scale, generating more trust, ease and speed. With a focus on reducing bureaucracy in the payment system abroad, fintech offers a totally secure field of access, with encrypted data, certificates and approvals from secure digital platforms. In addition, it has benefits and advantages, such as digital wallets, cashbacks and automatic conversions.

The expert also explains that in addition to security in the transaction processes, it is necessary to take some care with fake betting sites and apps, advising users to pay attention to some details before betting.

“With the increase in cyber attacks, hackers and cybercriminals take advantage of the growth of some markets to create fake websites and apps in order to steal people's data, passwords and information, so always pay attention to the legitimacy of the system; check the secure connection of the sites; look for security seals or check the apps' permissions and privacy policies,” concludes Oliveira.

Paylivre is a fintech that was born to innovate the payments market, facilitating and intermediating the connection between foreign and Brazilian companies.
