First initiative is a bootcamp

PokerStars.net joins forces with Poker Power to give women more opportunities

The world's leading brand in online gaming and entertainment PokerStars.net announced its partnership with women-led Poker Power organization. The first initiative that the duo will launch together is a poker bootcamp aimed at women with great interest in the sport and who want to strengthen their skills and develop their experience.

The partnership initiative is a key part of PokerStars.net's commitment to the growth of the game and supporting women in poker, encouraging the public to have fun at the tables, and ensuring that all players have a comfortable and safe place to play, both live and online. The news also follows recent research that highlights the big gender gap still within the game - with a female representation of only 4% of the world's 100 million players.

The PokerStars.net staff has teamed up with Poker Power to help women build a confident path and in-game skills as part of a chain of activities. Focused on highlighting women's talents in poker and presenting more opportunities, both for those already active within the community and for those who would like to be part of it.

The four-week bootcamp values teaching new players around the world, and brings techniques that translate into real-world success, such as negotiation, strategic decision-making and capital allocation. The curriculum includes hands-on sessions in the Poker Powers app, Poker Power Play, as well as specialized tournaments and home games in PokerStars.net. The modules are linked to themes of trust, daring, determination, perception and discipline.

The bootcamp has the participation of women from various regions such as Brazil, Canada, USA, France, Romania and the United Kingdom. In addition to enthusiastic poker students, many deal with motherhood and have full-time careers in the areas of law, interior design, fashion, software engineering and social networking. Participants were inspired to participate in the perspective of learning the main skills involved in poker, including the strategic and social elements of the sport, as well as having the opportunity to be part of a first-rate training camp.

Rebecca McAdam Willetts, director of partnerships, public relations and consumer engagement, says: "We are incredibly excited to join forces with an organization as progressive as Poker Power. They are the perfect partner to collaborate on this project, as the work they do with women in poker transcends the game table - their programs teach strategy and leadership skills that can be applied in the boardroom and beyond. Despite some great progress over the years, we know that there is still a long way to go to make poker more inclusive, but much can be done when we row in the same direction."

"We also know that women-only events and activities aren't for everyone, but we listen to players and this is one of the many activities we plan that comes from direct feedback. Bootcamps are an essential first opportunity to arouse interest in women who have never played the game and also to motivate those who already play, influencing them to continue to develop skills and gain confidence at the tables. We are committed to making poker inclusive and accessible to all and it is our mission to create equal opportunities and a safe space for the poker community," she adds.

Erin Lydon, director and general manager of Poker Power comments: "We are honored to work with PokerStars.net on this landmark milestone project. PokerStars.net shares our strategic mission and vision for the future of women in poker – and it's exciting to cure a special bootcamp with the brand that encourages more women to join this amazing sport. Our mission at Poker Power is to teach a million women business and life skills through the game of poker."

"Our four-week course will not teach women only about poker, but will bring them important life skills that can be applied to business, parenthood, and life in general. I hope that through this partnership, we can create more opportunities for women, and that the perceptions of poker begin to change and that more women feel able and safe to get on the table," she concludes.

The bootcamp will run for four weeks and participants will also have support from individual tutorials with PokerStars.net ambassadors including Jennifer Shahade, GJ Reggie and Lali Tournier, who will help prepare the participants of the European Poker Tour (EPT) Prague. Through an anonymous survey, a group of students was selected for bootcamp. It found that the interviewees had limited poker skills, but a great interest in learning and honing their game skills within training.

Other tools such PokerStars.net Learn, are available every day for participants who want to elevate their skills in their own time. Within the platform users learn the hands of ranking and become familiar with the format of online poker. The space is for both those who have never played before and those who need an upgrade session.

Following the four-week program, participants will be invited to the Prague EPT (December 7-18), where they will play and have the chance to win a Platinum Pass, joining the recent Platinum Pass winners, including Giada Fang and Rishya Iyer in the Bahamas.
