The BSOP Millions is the largest poker tournament in the Southern Hemisphere and broke its own record, achieved in the 2021 edition, when it had delivered $40.58 million (US$ 7.72m) in prizes. The number of total entries, i.e. payers in the 83 tournaments played over the 13 days of BSOP Millions, was 26,842, and the number of unique players was 3,872, which means that, on average, every BSOP Millions player played 6.93 tournaments.
The last stage of the Brazilian Poker Championship took place at the Golden Hall of the luxurious WTC Sheraton in São Paulo. With tournaments whose registration ranged from R$ 300 to R$ 50,000 (US$ 57 to US$ 9,500) - a record amount for a BSOP tournament - the public could enjoy several different poker modalities between November 14 and 26. The Main Event champion, the most important tournament of the BSOP Millions, was Dennys Ramos, who pocketed R$ 1.5 million (US$ 285k) and also received a bracelet and a champion's trophy.
One detail that shows the importance of the BSOP Millions is that, with the exception of the Brazilian public, which is the majority, players from 30 different countries went through the tournaments during the two weeks of competition. The BSOP Millions thus reinforces its status as the largest and most important poker tournament in the entire Southern Hemisphere.
Another relevant number is that 22.6% (876) of the total number of players who participated in the event were competing in the Brazilian Poker Championship for the first time, proof of the growing number of interested parties for this sport of the mind.
Moreover, the number of poker celebrities does not stop growing. In the 2022 edition, names such as former BBB Pyong Lee, player Dentinho, Olympic champion Maurren Maggi and actress Cláudia Rodrigues were some of the stars present at the event.
The circuit begins its 2023 season in January, with a special tournament in the Bahamas, before returning to the WTC Sheraton for the São Paulo stage. From there, he goes to Brasilia in June and returns to the capital of São Paulo for the BSOP Winter Millions the following month.
Combining tourist destinations with the country's capitals, the Brazilian Poker Championship travels to Foz do Iguaçu in early October for another stage, before hosting the BSOP Millions, starting on November 15. The novelty is that the 2023 edition of the tournament will be 15 days long - and promises to break even more records.
The Brazilian Poker Championship takes place annually through the stages held by the BSOP since 2006. Today it is the largest poker event in Latin America, having reached the record of 4,161 participants in a tournament in 2021 — a mark that accredited it to reach the status of the second largest poker tournament in the world. The Championship is held in some of the best tourist destinations in Brazil and in some of the largest capitals of the country.
