“A highly positive performance”. In this way, Thomas Carvalhaes, regional director Brazil at Vai de BOB, defines to GMB the performance of the bookmaker in 2022. Since taking over the role in June, the executive sees the growth of the Brazilian operation and expects that in 2023 BOB can become even more relevant for users. “We understand our target audience and create unique strategies, innovations and experiences for them.”

GMB - What is your assessment of your Vai de BOB's performance and growth in 2022? Was it what you expected or did it exceed expectations?
Thomas Carvalhaes
– Vai de BOB's growth in 2022 certainly exceeded expectations. We carried out many campaigns and activations, both through our marketing and media partner, Jovem Pan, and through our ambassadors and influencers, especially at this moment, with Vampeta. We did numerous events with him that reinforced our performance. In addition to other digital marketing strategies, as we have numerous traditional partners in the affiliation medium. So, I believe that we did very well and the performance in 2022 was highly positive.

Could you list the main accomplishments or goals achieved?
In addition to numerous events, such as in Santa Catarina, Brazilian iGaming Summit and others abroad, we have features that are revolutionary in the Brazilian market, such as BetBuilder, an exclusive tool from our technology and content provider, Sportingtech, which suggests ideal bets for the player. We are very proud to launch this functionality and we were pioneers in launching it. In terms of expansion, we are very focused on Brazil. We are a young company, but we have already received some important awards, one of them at the Brazilian iGaming Awards, and one at CGS Brasil, which took place in Florianópolis.

In your sector within the industry, what topics or technological advances do you think will dominate the market in 2023? What will be the future trends?
Very difficult to predict the future. We must be attentive to technological advances and innovations. I'm very cautious that this or that will happen. At times, some trends are a lot like rumors. What I can say is the growth of betting on eSports. We have seen the advance of regulation for electronic sports and it is quite possible that this segment will grow a lot in 2023 and could contribute to the regulation of sports betting.

Have you noticed that the Brazilian gaming market has evolved this year, or has it missed another opportunity? What do you see about the regulation in the country for 2023?
To be quite honest, I never believed that the regulation would come out this year. And it's not because it's negative, but because I see how Brazilian politics works. I think the market itself has evolved a lot, regardless of regulation. Regarding regulation, it depends on good political will. We already have a good draft to be approved, but I can't pinpoint when and how it will happen.

What are Vai de BOB's main goals/objectives for 2023?
Continue growing and increasing our relevance and establishing ourselves as a bookmaker brand that takes user satisfaction and experience into account. We understand the Brazilian target audience and create strategies and possibilities based on that. In short: to become increasingly relevant to our target audience by bringing innovations and experiences to the user.
