Procon/MS investigates suspected irregularities on unofficial federal lottery betting sites

The Superintendence for Consumer Guidance and Defense (Procon/MS) of Brazil will investigate, at the request of Caixa Econômica Federal, suspected illegalities on unauthorized sites that exploit official lotteries, such as Mega Sena, Lotofácil, Loteca and Timemania. In the letter sent by the institution, the state bank identified fifteen unofficial websites and applications that collect bets from official lotteries, improperly using Caixa’s brands.

The superintendent of Procon/MS, Marcelo Salomão, warns the population to be aware of possible scams. “We will investigate the complaint of these unofficial federal lottery betting sites.”

“The consumer often thinks that he is playing a Mega-Sena game, for example, through a website and this game is not even registered in the Caixa system,” he added.

In the letter sent by the institution, Caixa identified fifteen unofficial websites and applications that collect bets from official lotteries, improperly using Caixa Econômica’s brands.

These sites receive money from gamblers and do not place bets on Caixa Econômica Federal's official lottery system. The sites also do not send customers proof of bet, the only document accepted for receiving the prize.

Currently, the only official channels for online betting are the Caixa lottery portal, the Caixa Loterias app and Caixa internet banking.
