Project creates program to prevent and fight childhood cancer with lottery resources in Brazil

Federal deputy Alexandre Frota (PSDB-SP) presented bill 30/22, which allocates part of the lottery resources to the creation and execution of the Child Oncology Support Program, which focuses on preventing and fighting childhood câncer in Brazil. The text is being processed in the Chamber of Deputies and the objective is that the resources are used in research, in dissemination of information of the disease, in early diagnosis and for the treatment and rehabilitation of patients. The Bill does not stipulate percentages to be withdrawn from the resources generated by the lotteries.

Medical assistance services may be supported to speed up care, examinations and surgeries, in addition to the training of human resources at all levels and clinical, epidemiological and experimental research.

"Child cancer affects the child's family, friends and acquaintances, but when it is identified early, the cure rate can reach 70%," states Alexandre Frota.

He adds that leukemia is the most common type of cancer in childhood, along with tumors that affect the lymphatic and central nervous systems.

“It is a matter of social justice, since Brazil already has technology for the early detection of some types of cancer, but this has not reached the poorest strata of society,” he concludes.
