The awareness campaign is being disseminated on the social networks of Cibelae and some of its associates.
February 17th is International Responsible Gaming Day. The date, proposed in 2008 by the European Gaming and Betting Association, is an opportunity to give visibility to responsible gambling as opposed to compulsive betting, highlighting the importance of playing games of chance consciously, fun, controlled and as a form of distraction.
What is Responsible Gaming?
These are measures, practices and corporate tools of gaming operators that seek to reduce or eliminate the risks of potential negative impacts of the exploitation of gaming on players and society in general.
Why is it important for Lotteries to implement these measures?
Gambling is a widespread entertainment activity. But gambling can become, for some people, an activity that causes them problems in their personal lives – financial and social – when associated with abusive gambling behavior. Pathological gambling is characterized by the World Health Organization as a mental and behavioral disorder, more specifically, as an addictive disorder without substance.
What Responsible Gaming measures can gaming operators implement?
They are many and range from employee and retailer research and training, through game and channel design, marketing and advertising, to player information – transparency about gaming features, gambling risks, JR recommendations and how to get help in a risky situation.
What special care do online gaming and other remote channels deserve?
Lotteries must implement controls on the identity of players, for example, if they are of minimum age to play and if they reside in the jurisdiction; and security devices for the protection and self-protection of players, since the games are extremely accessible and permanently available for sale. It is important that players have access to all information about gaming features, Responsible Gaming recommendations, the risks of gambling, the symptoms of problematic or pathological gambling and how to get help in risky situations.
What special care should Lotteries have in their advertising and marketing?
Both in advertising and in their marketing actions, operators must not encourage excessive gambling habits, presenting unreasonable incentives to gamble or probabilities of winning different from the real ones. Nor should they target vulnerable audiences (in terms of age, social status or gambling habits) or exploit people's financial concerns or present gambling as an alternative to work. Likewise, they must not support or offer credit solutions for gambling or present the game as a solution to personal problems. Marketing actions must not be discriminatory (on grounds of race, religion, age or sex) or appeal to violence, sexual exploitation or illegal conduct.
