Highlights of Brazil’s gaming legalization project are rejected by Chamber's Plenary

On Thursday (24) afternoon, the Chamber of Deputies rejected all the plenary highlights presented to change the text of Bill 442/91, which legalizes gambling in Brazil and that was approved by a large majority of votes during the first hours of the day. Thus, the Bill will be submitted for consideration in the Senate and, in the case of approval, it will go to presidential sanction.

The deputies maintained the opinion of Federal Deputy Felipe Carreras (PSB-PE) on the report that legalizes casinos, bingos, jogo do bicho and online betting. Now, the proposal goes to the Senate for consideration.

The taxation on gaming was among the most controversial points of the vote. Of the highlights, one from PT wanted to increase Cide-Jogos from 17% to 30%.

Deputy Felipe Carreras defended the maintenance of the percentage proposed in the project, stating that it should allow the attraction of investments. In his demonstration, he said that “you cannot compare a kilo of rice with entertainment. We want to encourage the generation of jobs and income," he said.

Some deputies present, opposed to the activity of gaming, expressed themselves again to regret the approval of the project that legalizes the sector, but that some points of the Bill could be reformed to bring more benefits to specific sectors. Even with the arguments, they did not win any of the highlights.
