In a letter to the evangelical audience

Former Minister of Justice Sergio Moro to criticize gaming legalization in Brazil

Brazilian jurist and former Minister of Justice Sergio Moro will criticize the legalization of gaming in the country, a topic that should be voted on this month by the Chamber. The position is contained in a letter that the former judge's campaign is preparing to address the evangelical public, with a view to attracting this electorate. The document will be released next Monday (7) to pastors in Fortaleza, according to a column by Guilherme Amado in Metrópoles newspaper.

The current version of the letter mentions that gaming in Brazil would generate “social ills” and reduce the protection of children and adolescents, especially the poorest. This argument is in line with the positions of the evangelical bench in Congress and the Catholic Church, which last Tuesday (2) attacked the project being processed in the Chamber.

Elsewhere, Moro's document to evangelicals will advocate strengthening federal government partnerships with religious organizations. The campaign's assessment is that these entities should be valued for their wide reach in social assistance services.

Moro's dialogue with the evangelical electorate is coordinated by Uziel Santana, a Presbyterian pastor and founder of the National Association of Evangelical Jurists (Anajure). When it was launched in 2012, the conservative association paid tribute to Damares Alves, the current Minister of Human Rights under Jair Bolsonaro.

Before formally addressing the evangelical sector next week, Sergio Moro had meetings with leaders of the group. In recent days, he has been with pastors on his tour of the interior of Sao Paulo, in cities such as Sao José do Rio Preto and Bebedouro.
