The project under discussion regulates in law the National Network of Technology Laboratories against Money Laundering (Rede-Lab). Currently, this association of bodies with legal attribution for the criminal prosecution of money laundering is provided for in an ordinance of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
The text under analysis by the Chamber of Deputies deals with objectives, principles, guidelines, responsibilities and funding sources for the national network. Coordination will continue with the Department of Asset Recovery and International Legal Cooperation (DRCI), of the National Secretariat of Justice (SNJ), an agency of the ministry.
“Since the creation of Rede-Lab, 17,186 cases have been analyzed, generating around 150,000 reports, and R$ 538 billion in assets with signs of illegality have been identified,” said the authors of the proposal, deputies Felipe Rigoni (União-ES) and Tabata Amaral (PSB-SP), in the document accompanying the project.
According to parliamentarians, the intention is to strengthen Rede-Lab, granting legal status and guaranteeing funding sources for its operation, including the transfer of 0.01% of revenue from numerical prediction lotteries (Mega-Sena, Lotofácil, Quina, etc. ) and resources from the National Anti-Drug Fund (Funad).
