On Tuesday 12, Investment & Finance Masterclass #6 will have several global market roundtables. From 4:00pm to 5:00pm (UK time – 1:00pm to 2:00pm Brasilia time), roundtable 3 is dedicated only to Brazil, and will look at this emerging market, including proposed relaxations of online and land-based regulations. Waldir Marques (Under Secretary SECAP, Ministry Economy), Itamar Pereira, (IT Manager, Ministry Economy) and Luiz Felipe Maia (Founding Partner at FYMSA Lawyers) will talk about those topics.
On the next day (Wednesday 13), Regulation Masterclass #12: “LatAm masterclass: The operational, strategic and regulatory 'musts' of doing business in LatAm” will introduce a Keynote with Andre Gelfi (Managing Partner, Brazil, Betsson). From 2:00pm to 2:15pm (UK time) (11:00 to 11.15h BR time) the masterclass will offer an insight into the key challenges as well as an essential model to establish a solid foundation for business in Brazil. Speaker will share expertise on what to consider when choosing a Brazilian company to partner with, what to look for in a supplier and what suppliers need from European operators.
Later, Luiz Felipe Maia (Founding Partner at FYMSA Advogados) will be part of “Shared Experience: Regulator panel: Discover which LatAm market can meet the demands of your business”. From 2:50pm to 3:30pm (UK time) (11.50h to 12.30h BR time), this session brings together a panel of gaming regulators from Latin America, including Argentina, and Brazil, the markets of most interest to operators currently as they are in the process of developing a legal framework for gaming expansion. Maia will share panel with Ida Lopez (President, IPJYC Mendoza), Sebastian Vivot (CTO, Lotería de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires), Idalynn Ortiz (Executive Director, Gaming Commission, Puerto Rico Tourism Company) and Omar Galdurralde (President, IPLyC, Province of Buenos Aires– Video presentation).
From 4:30pm to 4:50pm (UK time) (1:30pm to 1:50pm BR time) “Spotlight: Pay4Fun’s transformation of Brazilian ecommerce and its plans for LatAm expansion” will talk about an emerging Brazilian payment provider discussing local market challenges as it pursues expansion on the continent, with Leonardo Baptista (Co-founder & CEO, Pay4Fun) and Ari Celia (Co-founder, Pay4Fun).
At the end of the day, from 4:50pm to 5:30 (UK time) (1:50pm to 2:30pm BR time) Panel “Shared Experience: Does controlling the number of licences issued fight industry threats or is it just threatening free trade?” will feature LatAm experts from different jurisdictions, debating whether the number of licenses issued should be limited. Experts also suggest that unregulated markets will exist regardless and the benefits of imposing limits can be greater, but this shouldn’t be a fixed number for all of LatAm countries, and should be calculated in relation to the size and demand of each country. Neil Montgomery (Founding & Managing Partner, Montgomery & Associados), Luiz Felipe Maia (Founding Partner at FYMSA Lawyers) and Karen Sierra-Hughes (VP Latin America & Caribbean, GLI) will be the speakers.
