The eSports, or “Electronic Sports” are part of a market that has expanded astronomically in Brazil. According to a survey carried out in 2021 by Twitter, the social network that most facilitates meetings between game developers, streamers, content creators, leagues, teams, players and commentators, Brazil is the fifth country in the world that tweets the most about games.
The survey also shows that globally, more than 2.4 billion messages were written about games on Twitter last year. This represents a 14% increase compared to 2020 and a 10-fold increase compared to the 2017 survey.
In the ranking of the most talked about eGaming athletes in the world, Brazilians @Nobru (6th place) and @FalleNCS (7th place) are listed.
Although the pandemic has caused damage to in-person eGaming events, according to data from Newzoo, the confinement of people at home around the world has caused the number of casual gamers and users of streaming platforms to increase significantly.
In 2020, a year without in-person events, there was a 9.6% increase in the number of game viewers on streaming platforms. In 2021, with the relative resumption of face-to-face events, the numbers still grew by 8.7%.
The study also shows that the trend is that in 2024 the audience of eGames platforms will reach 570 million people. This increase is obviously linked to a growth in the category's revenue.
How the world of eGaming works
If you still don't know how these sports achieved such a significant position in the gaming world, it's interesting to know how eSports are organized.
The eSport was born from the work of the companies that developed the games. From there, league organizations were created in each modality, and professional players also emerged. Most of the events take place on streaming platforms.
Among the most famous developer companies are Valve, Riot Games, Epic Games and Blizzard. The games League of Legends and Valorant, two examples of success within eSports, were launched by Riot Games.
The eSports companies also create their teams, which are famous all over the world. Some of the most well-known eSports organizations are TSM, Cloud9, Team Liquid, FaZe Clan and Geng.G. They have a lot of market value and have huge revenues. Brazilian companies INTZ, paiN Gaming and LOUD, have also become increasingly popular.
Professional eSports players are hired by teams, and the best are paid very well. Players like Johan “N0tail” Sundstein (OG – Dota 2), Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf (Sentinels – Fortnite) and Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz (NiP – CS:GO) are among the most famous and successful in the world.
Certainly, Brazil will continue to grow a lot in the eSports scenario, as it has been in the sports betting scenario. Keep following the Control+F5 Gaming blog and learn all about games and betting.
