As reported by France Bleu Paris, Paris Saint-Germain have taken the decision to suspend their partnership with sponsor Fonbet, a Russian betting company, effective immediately, until the end of the season.
“Current events have led us to reconsider our commitment to two Russian companies. We have entered into a mutual agreement with our regional partner Fonbet to suspend the contract until the end of the season,” explained PSG in an statement.
This comes after the company signed a sponsorship deal at the end of 2019, which was due to last until 2023.
Despite this, PSG maintain their youth academy in Moscow. Set up in 2019, the academy hosts 500 children this season. That said, the club operate 152 academies in 17 countries around the world, and are not alone in continuing in Russia: Barcelona, Juventus and Inter Milan have all left their Russian academies open.
Additionally, both Seria A’s AC Milan (Italy) and La Liga’s Real Madrid (Spain) have also cut ties with Fonbet as the sport continues to show support for Ukraine.
