Olímpia, in the interior of Sao Paulo, is synonymous with fun thanks to the famous thermal water parks. And the destination is even more unmissable in resorts that have infrastructure. Therei, in September 2021, the opening of the largest multi-property resort in Brazil, Solar das Águas Park Resort, took place.
The event marked the beginning of the operation of the enterprise and was attended by authorities such as João Doria, governor of Sao Paulo, Vinicius Lummertz, Secretary of Tourism and Travel and Fernando Cunha, mayor of Olímpia, among others.
During the ceremony, Olímpia received the title of first Tourist District in the State of Sao Paulo. This is because on August 25, the governor signed the decree that regulates the creation of Tourist Districts (Law 17.374/21). The change will promote better conditions for the city to receive investments in the sector by the private sector.
Currently, Olímpia has more than 30,000 beds to serve visitors. Asked by the M&E if the city would be a candidate to receive a casino if the release of the gaming sector is approved by the National Congress, Alexandre Zubaran guarantees that it is.
“Olímpia certainly has all the conditions to host a casino, an activity that is at the heart of the entertainment business. And it could be in one of our hotels for sure, we have all the conditions. A casino would bring jobs and income generation. But as long as it is based on strict legislation,” concludes Zubaran.
Solar das Águas is located in Parque do Sol, the first planned resort district in the country – with an area of 380,000 square meters, expected to house up to six resorts, a shopping center and a convention center over the next 15 years. The resort has 1,000 apartments measuring 77 square meters, furnished and equipped, distributed in four 17-story towers, with capacity for up to 6,000 people.
In addition, Solar das Águas Park Resort also offers an extensive list of leisure and activities items, such as: a water park equipped with eight hot and cold water pools, jacuzzis, spa with hot tubs, water toys, in addition to mini golf, cinema, playground, sports courts, game rooms, playrooms, football field, sport bar, teen space, archery activities and recreation team, among other attractions.
Olímpia already receives inquiries for the implementation of a casino
For its part, the Municipality of Olímpia has already received inquiries from investors about the implementation of a casino in the city, which is considered a tourist hub in the Rio Preto region.
“In relation to gaming, we have already received consultations from groups interested in the subject, studying Olímpia as a place of implantation, especially groups from abroad. I see that in case of approval, Olímpia meets the conditions and as a Tourist Resort, there is no way to stay out,” said Mayor Fernando Cunha (PSD), last Friday (18).
Cunha, however, stated that he has not yet formed an opinion on the approval of the project that regulates gaming in the country. “I believe that, at this first moment, bingos and electronic games houses would be made possible in a professional way, with food courts and associated entertainment. Regarding the casinos, I imagine that, as they are big projects, they will be installed in cities such as capitals and even on the coast, since cities the size of Olímpia should be left for a second phase,” said Cunha.
According to the proposal, cities classified as centers or tourist destinations will be allowed to install a casino, regardless of the population density of the state in which they are located. “The proposal defines these places as those that have a regional identity, adequate infrastructure and offer of tourist services, a high density of tourists and title of natural heritage of humanity, in addition to having tourism as an important economic activity,” says in a note from the Federal Chamber.
