Cartola Express is a licensing of the original game, with a different dynamic, which allows users to assemble their teams and participate in competitions in various ways, which can change from round to round with disputes and various awards. The player can bet in full round, with all games, or for a single day (such as Wednesday or Sunday, for example). The player who opts for the Express will be able to assemble one or more teams. For now, the tactical scheme is 4-3-3, but the strategies continue to be based on knowledge about the players.
This is the moment to bring the daily fantasy style to the market, which presents different dynamics for the game, because the broadcaster realized that this is the growing trend, observes the CEO of DFS Entretenimento, Alessandra Lewit. “Globo Group already has important experience with Cartola. Now, it brought a new way of playing and the need to evolve with the Express model,” she says. It's important to connect with users, she says, and that's why the company takes into account the experience and how the player faces the game.
Cartola Express brings a non-linear version of the way to play and dispute points. During all rounds or games played, all users leave with the equal value of 140 ‘cartoletas’ (the currency used in the game), and there is no financial appreciation of the teams. Prizes are distributed per round, according to the amount paid by each user and the number of members in the leagues. “Both products are knowledge-based. Traditional Cartola has a continuity and social side and we felt the need for a dynamic. For now, the model is based on subscriptions,” explains the CEO.
Like the original version, one of the game's principles will be to bring information and engagement with Brazilian football. Caio Ribeiro, former player and currently commentator for Globo and SporTv, says that Cartola is a way to encourage people to study Brazilian football, as the game works with scouts (which are metrics and statistics of players and matches).
Another point taken into consideration by both Grupo Globo and DFS is infrastructure. Heloisa Soares, product specialist, comments that the user has a range of options to choose how he prefers to relate to the game, in the financial sense, with the deposit packages.
“We have a wallet, in which the user can make deposits through Pix or choose according to their preference,” says Soares. To this end, the companies joined forces with FanDuel, which provides the technological platform for the tournament, Stone, Grupo Globo's fintech that offers payment and financial security solutions, and Idwall, a reference startup in the anti-fraud digital authentication market.
Fantasy has a pilot version during the rounds of the group stage of the Campeonato Paulista. Some ‘cartoleiros’ were already testing and experimenting with the features. Now the Express version is available to everyone. To publicize these news, Globo selected a team of ten influencers (who also play the game) to communicate the innovations on its channels, in addition to commentators and former players Pedrinho and Roger Flores, who is an ambassador for the game. The campaign extends to TV and the digital environment.
The traditional Cartola underwent a makeover for the season. In addition to changes in aspects of the game, such as the computation of points through the scout and features linked to the reserve bench and captain, the game promises to distribute more than R$ 1 million (US$ 210k) in prizes, with the partner Méliuz, which now offers options cashback (10% when hiring Cartola Pro and R$ 0.50 for each round in which the team is selected).
The prizes vary according to the ranking of the competition, even in the free modality. The top 100 scorers of each round will be awarded, as well as the best user of each month of the dispute, the Top 5 of the round and return and the Top 10 best of the season.
