The liberalization of gambling divides the Brazilian population, according to a survey by PoderData carried out from February 27 to March 1. The research shows that 48% are opposed to the initiative, 43% is in favor and 9% says they don't know. A total of 3.00 people were surveyed.
Currently, the Senate is debating the legalization of casinos, bingo, jogo do bicho and online gaming, which has already been approved by the Chamber of Deputies. Bolsonaro said he will veto the bill if it passes.
Evangelicals are the most opposed
The survey compared the perception of the project between Catholics and Evangelicals. In this last group, 54% say they are against the measure – 6 points more than the general stratum, the same percentage as Catholics who oppose it: 48%.
Bolsonaro supporters are more in favor
Even with Bolsonaro's rejection of the project, in the group that supports the current president, 57% are in favor of the measure. Among those who rate it as “bad” or “terrible”, it is 37%.
The survey was conducted by PoderData, with 3,000 respondents over 16 years of age across the country, from February 27 to March 1, 2022. The margin of error is 2 percentage points. The confidence interval is 95%. The TSE registration is BR-01570/2022.
