Creator of League of Legends, VALORANT and Wild Rift

Riot Games do Brasil's new office includes eSport arena to attract gaming fans

The return to face-to-face work will be very different for the employees of Riot Games do Brasil, the American company that created the games League of Legends, VALORANT and Wild Rift. To set the tone for this new phase, the resumption will be in a new and completely renovated office. Right at the entrance of the 4,500 m² space, visitors can already feel the business differential: everyone who passes by will see the statue of the Brazilian character Raze, from Valorant.

The entrance is the main area of the new office, where it is possible to hold events, invite players to evaluate the brand's new releases, hold weekly lunches with the entire team and, of course, play games.

Right next to the statue of the Brazilian character Raze, from Valorant, there is a room reserved only for employees to play – and with all the equipment that would make any player dream of a spot there. There are four rows of state-of-the-art computers in a room fully set up for eSports: lots of gaming chairs and RGB.

“We wanted to create a space for coexistence and collaboration. Our office has the function of generating content, marketing and business, it cannot be a traditional office. One of the reasons we built this complex was to attract talent,” says Diego Martinez, Riot's general manager in Brazil.

The reason for Riot's existence in the country is to distribute the games and support the player community. And in order to do that, they need to be immersed in and passionate about all of the game's universes.

While the games are developed at the headquarters, in Los Angeles, or in a studio in China, the team in Brazil, as well as the dozens of offices around the world, is responsible for publishing the game. It's a job of marketing, prospecting new business, interacting with players and influencers, supporting the community and adapting the games to the local market.

They now return in the hybrid model for three days a week and two at home. “These are flexible days; the employee can stay at home or choose to come to the office as well. The idea is that these days are used for more individual work, without meetings and more with reading, reflection and other things that you will not do in the office,” says the executive.

At the moment, resumption is not mandatory and depends on the comfort and safety of the person to return. The company still offers the entire covid-19 testing structure and vaccination certificate requirement.

And the care is expanded because of another differential of the space: the circulation of about 100 people daily through the place, counting only the employees and service providers, is added to the community of partner brands, eSports athletes and their teams there.

This is because the front of the office hides the entire structure of three studios for the different eSports competitions to be held and broadcast on site.

The growth of the segment is one of the reasons for the company to have reorganized itself and consider this a new chapter. Riot's goal is to position itself as the entertainment company of the 21st century.

And that includes investing in space with the expectation of keeping pace with the growth of the industry. According to the company, the sector has an average growth of 10% per year, considering revenue as a base.
