One of the biggest icons of Amazonas, the Tropical Hotel, bought by the Fametro group in 2020 for R$91 million (US$ 18.5m), should be reopened in December this year and is ready to become a hotel-casino. The information was revealed by the dean of the University Center Fametro, Maria do Carmo Seffair, in an interview with the Sim&Não podcast this Thursday (28).
The legalization and regulation of casinos, bingos and gambling (Bill 442/1991) was approved by the Chamber of Deputies earlier this year and is being processed in the Senate.
“The hotel is ready for that. It is to approve (in Congress) and come. There is no way around here, it was created for that,” said the dean.
According to the project being analyzed in Congress, casinos can only be installed in large resorts, with a limit of establishments per state. Due to the size of the population, Amazonas should have only one authorization.
“The Tropical hotel has this standard and it will be one of the only ones. There are few that will be allowed, and the one in Amazonas will be Tropical. It is prepared and licensed to do so. After we acquired it, we saw it,” she declared.
According to Maria do Carmo, the works are being carried out, but the most complex phase will be the “hotel implementation. Our perspective is that it will be reopened in December, but we will hit the hammer even in July,” she informed.
In addition to the casino, the hotel will have restaurants, SPA, concerts and other events, as in the past. “There are already people wanting to hire,” she said.
The hotel has 580 apartments. According to Maria do Carmo, initially, the enterprise should generate around 1,000 direct jobs.
