Brazil’s Ministry of Economy is expected to announce changes in the sector responsible for lotteries next week. The change of roles will take place on the eve of the publication of the decree that will regulate sports betting in the country.
Responsible for formulating the decree, Waldir Eustáquio Marques Júnior will leave the head of the Prize and Draws Undersecretary and will be transferred to the office of the Special Secretariat for Productivity and Competitiveness.
Marques has been in the ministry since 2007 and received an award in London, on April 13th, for his performance in the gaming sector. ICE LONDON, the most important gaming industry fair in the world, presented the ICE London Landmark Award to him “for his incredible 15 years of service to the sector in Brazil.”
Waldir will be replaced by Iuri Ribeiro Castro, who made a career at Caixa Econômica Federal. Castro was appointed in October last year as the general coordinator of lottery regulation at the Ministry of Economy.
The change is attributed to cuts that the ministry is making to enable the creation of the Federal Regional Court of Minas Gerais, approved in September by the Senate.
Jair Bolsonaro is expected to sign, by May 10, the decree to regulate sports betting in the country.
