IN MEETING WITH DEPUTY FELIPE CARRERAS

President of Brazil’s Senate promises to guide release of gambling in 2022

The president of the Senate in Brazil, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), met last Thursday (28) with the rapporteur in the Chamber of the bill that regulates gambling in Brazil, deputy Felipe Carreras (PSB-PE). In the conversation, Pacheco promised to guide the project in the Senate in 2022. The proposal was approved by the Chamber of Deputies in February this year and, since then, it has been waiting in the drawer of the PSD senator from Minas Gerais.

Pacheco and Carreira also talked about possible rapporteurs for the project in the Senate. The most cited are senators Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), Irajá Abreu (PSD-TO) and Veneziano Vital do Rêgo (MDB-PB).

The Gambling Bill faces strong opposition from the majority of the congressional evangelical bench. President Jair Bolsonaro has also publicly stated that he will veto the proposal if it reaches his hands.
