The opposition political wing is against the proposal, as highlighted by deputy Arlete Sampaio (PT). “I am absolutely against the project that creates the lottery in the Federal District. First because it intends to be a private lottery, second because there is no clarity about the destination of the resources that, as in the federal area, go to social security. This project is a mistake,” she concludes.
The vice president of the Chamber, Rodrigo Delmasso (Republicans), said that the evangelical bench will vote in favor of the proposal as long as the bench amendment is approved.
“In principle, I and the entire bench are against the project, but we have introduced an amendment that prohibits the extension of the lottery service to other games of chance, such as bingo and casinos but, as there is already a federal lottery, we are not going to ban a district lottery,” he said.
The president of the Chamber, deputy Rafael Prudente (MDB), stated that the proposal can be voted on this Tuesday, 10. “The project has been on the agenda for weeks, and I hope it will be voted on this Tuesday. There was a lot of discussion around it about releasing other games, but the proposal we are going to vote on has nothing to do with bingos and casinos. The project creates a lottery to compete with Caixa Econômica Federal and benefit the sports sector,” he highlighted.
According to the local government, the administration of the establishments will be agreed through a public-private partnership. The bidding to choose the company responsible for managing the lottery must take place as soon as the project is approved by the Chamber. The planned investment is almost R$ 20 million (US$ 3.9m). The novelty should have different types of games such as: instant lottery, prediction lottery, fixed-odds lottery and eSports.
