The renowned Brazilian lawyer Maria Luiza Kurban Jobin, specialized in the gaming sector and member of the Maia Yoshiyasu law firm, participated in the publication “The Global Gambling Industry”, a book edited by Springer Nature that condenses articles on the global gaming industry.
One of the chapters is precisely signed by her and is entitled “Aligning the Dice Between Past Trials and Future Goals: The Complexities and Idiosyncrasies Involving Current Commercial Gambling Regulation in Brazil”.
In it, the author highlights the complexities of Brazil in the issue of gaming regulation and what can be expected in the future. In her presentation, Maria Luiza comments on the dichotomy between the illegality of gaming in the country and legalization. The author traces a history of the sector from the 40s of the last century with the prohibition of casinos, through the short “traumatic and chaotic regulation of bingo”, which operated in Brazil in the early 1990s until the mid-1990s. 2000's.
With great propriety, she points out that “since then, commercial operators have been creative in finding loopholes in the laws and tireless in defending the proper and general legalization of the sector, but so far none of them has been successful enough.”
On the eve of the regulation of sports betting, the author says on her social networks: “2022 - In such a remarkable year for the regulation of gambling in Brazil, I could not be more flattered to have participated in such a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the regulation of commercial gambling around the world – dealing with the peculiar Brazilian case – alongside so many experienced specialists in the field.”
