This Tuesday (10), the OAB Gaming Law Commission of Rio de Janeiro took office, headed by Paulo Horn as president. During the act, he highlighted that the group's proposal “is to carry out the broadest work that collaborates with efforts to regulate gaming activities in Brazil. We have to act to make the debate on regulation collaborate for the efforts of those in the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary who defend regulation."
In the meeting, the professor, writer and journalist Luiz Carlos Prestes Filho was appointed as a consultant to the OAB-RJ Commission. He is author of three works dedicated to the topic: “Theory of Probability in Gambling, Science and Public Policy”, “Free time as an economic asset – gaming in debate”, and “Brazil, you are hard because you want to – debate on Casinos, Bingos and Jogo do Bicho.”
During the meeting, Prestes Filho presented suggestions to take the discussions about gambling and betting not only to the public sphere - State and Municipal Governments, Legislative Assembly, City Council, Federal and Military Police - but also to civil society entities, such as the of Industries, Federation of Commerce and Commercial Association, Rock in Rio, Sugarloaf Mountain Airway, Independent League of Samba Schools, entities representing tourism, hotels and restaurants.
Prestes Filho highlighted that it would be symbolic to hold a working meeting with the mayor and councilors of the city:
"Petrópolis keeps in its memory one of the most original moments of the gaming industry in Brazil. The Hotel Cassino Quitandinha, today managed by the Social Service of Commerce (SESC-RJ) as a Cultural Center, deserves to be visited by the members of the OAB-RJ commission. We have to honor the memory of thousands of workers who found themselves unemployed overnight, with the prohibition of gaming in 1946."
About the most recent book by Luiz Carlos Prestes - "Brazil, you're hard because you want to" - there will soon be an autograph session at the OAB-RJ venue.
