Participants at the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) global meeting, which runs through Frida (13)y, learn about information, experiences and best practices at the international level to prevent corruption and fraud in a wide range of sports, where criminal networks are trying to exploit the passion of sports fans and exploit it to implement their illegal ends.
The Office of International Affairs of the Ministry of the Interior welcomed participants to the meeting in the presence of representatives from participating countries and various local, Arab and international police and sports leaders from football, cricket, athletics, tennis, table tennis and sports betting and sports government bodies.
The Office reinforced the desire of the UAE Ministry of Interior to promote integrative international action and exchange best practices and experiences to improve institutional work aimed at increasing the security and stability of societies, stressing the importance of such specialized meetings that discuss various issues related to integrity and transparency and enhancing the security of international sporting events and International Youth Forums.
The meeting addresses several relevant topics related to violations in sports, ways to verify them and ways to combat them, mainly because they represent a form of crime through betting circles linked to money laundering, smuggling and corruption.
The meeting also addresses a number of realistic and up-to-date issues that the relevant authorities are working on, revealing methods of fraud and match-fixing, means of dealing with them, best practices in investigation methods, ways to use cryptocurrencies and offshore companies, and tools for internet monitoring that were revealed during investigations conducted by the authorities involved in such real issues.
