Along with Lorenzon, Andrey Vilas Boas de Freitas (Undersecretary for Competition Law – SAC) and Iuri Castro (Undersecretary for Special Affairs, Lottery and Export Processing Zones) represented the Ministry at the meeting.
For its part, the BGC was represented by Tournier y Gelfi, along with Danilo Gennari (District Government Relations Partner), Gabriela Farina (Government Relations District) and Davis Hodge (Concordia Public Affairs Partner).
It is worth remembering that in response to decree 11.036/2022, which restructured the Ministry of Economy, the Secretariat of Competition Law, SEPEC, has a new department, the Undersecretariat for Special Affairs Lottery and Export Processing Zones, whose objective is to verify and regulate lottery categories in Brazil and the regulation of sports betting (fixed quota).
This was one of the first meetings between representatives of the gaming sector with the new Brazilian regulatory authorities and, according to André Gelfi, it was more than positive: “I was very optimistic about the public view of the members of the Ministry of Economy responsible for regulating betting sports.”
“They seemed to me to be absolutely committed to completing the regulation and licensing operators in Brazil as soon as possible, within the period established by law. I believe that the potential for collecting bets on the World Cup weighs heavily in this regard,” says the executive of Betsson Brasil exclusively to GMB.
Betting and gaming is a key part of the UKs dynamic and diverse leisure and entertainment industry. It contributes over £3.2 billion in taxes and provides work for over 100,000 people.
As the single industry body, the BGC work with their members, large and small, to raise standards, create a culture of safer gambling and build public and institutional trust in its world class industry.
Established in 2019, the BGC represents over 90% of retail betting shops, online betting and gaming operators, casinos and bingo operators. They put the customer first to drive standards over and above regulatory requirements to ensure a safer, fairer betting and gaming experience for all.
At the meeting, Tournier made it clear that BGC is available to contribute its experience and knowledge on a global level of the subject in case the Ministry of Economy requires it to complete the text of the decree that will regulate the Brazilian sports betting market.
