Decrees appointing Iuri Castro Lottery Undersecretary and Waldir Marques SEPEC advisor are issued

This Tuesday (3) night was published in the extra edition (81-A) of the Union’s Official Gazette the appointment of Iuri Ribeiro da Silva e Castro to the position of Undersecretary of Lottery. In the same edition, Waldir Eustáquio Marques Jr. is officially named advisor to the Special Secretariat for Productivity and Competitiveness of the Ministry of Economy. This reflects the exchange of positions promoted by the government in the portfolio.

Civil engineer and master in administration, Iuri Ribeiro da Silva e Castro had been appointed to take over the new Undersecretariat for Special Affairs, Lotteries and Export Processing Zones, linked to the Special Secretariat for Productivity and Competitiveness (SEPEC), as already informed GMB. Ordinance No. 496 appoints him to the position of Undersecretary at SEPEC. Previously, he held the position of coordinator of lottery regulation and national lottery manager at Caixa Economica Federal (CEF), as well as director of CAIXA Loterias.

He will be at the forefront of the process that will culminate in the regulation of sports betting and officially present to the market the presidential decree that GMB published first hand in this Monday's edition.

At the same time, Ordinance SEPEC/ME 4,578 appoints Waldir Eustáquio Marques Jr. for the position of advisor in the Special Secretariat for Productivity and Competitiveness. Lawyer and specialist in public policy management, he has been at SECAP for the last few years and is due to him for the advances in the regulation of sports betting.

Waldir Marques has been at the Ministry of Economy for 15 years, having worked heavily in the area of lottery, sweepstakes and gaming regulation at SECAP. The new SEPEC advisor has a specialization in gaming regulation from UNLV - University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in the course "Fundamentals of Gaming Law and Regulation" and "Strategic Perspectives in the Gaming Industry, from UNR University of Nevada, Reno.

During recent edition of ICE London, the most important gaming industry trade show in the world, he received the ICE London Landmark Award “for his incredible 15 years of service to the sector in Brazil.”

President Jair Bolsonaro is expected to sign the presidential decree that regulates sports betting in Brazil in the coming days. The document was published this Monday (2) exclusively by GMB.
