The Grand Prix Brazil Festival at Hipódromo da Gávea celebrates its 90th edition

Between the 24th and 27th of June, the Jockey Club Brasileiro will host the Grand Prix Brazil Festival for the ninetieth time, the main event on the annual Brazilian horse racing calendar. With free admission and bets from just R$2 (US 0.40), the Brazilian GP brings together sports, gastronomy and children's programming, as well as lounges to enjoy the weekend.

The Festival takes place on the date of the main race, called ‘Grande Prêmio Brasil’ (Grand Prix Brazil,) which has been held at Hipódromo da Gávea since 1933. Highlights of the new generation are not only B.Queiroz and L.Henrique, but also female jockeys Victoria Mota and Jeane Alves. Veteran Jorge Ricardo, world record holder in turf victories, is also confirmed. It is worth remembering that the main day of the Brazilian GP is Sunday, when eyes will be turned to the most important horse races in the country.

In addition to the menus and itineraries of the 10 restaurants distributed around the hippodrome, the Jockey will also have a full program: at Tribuna Social, ‘Formidable’, located on the 3rd floor, has reservations and has a menu signed by chef Pedro de Artagão. On the edge of the track, with a privileged view, the ClubHouse will also feature artisanal pizza from Bastarda, cold beer and other special dishes from Grupo Irajá.

At Tribuna A, in addition to the Inverso Gávea and Terrazza restaurants, the Alter brewery and Bar FuChico are present, with bar snacks and draft beer. In the large outdoor space, food trucks with ceviche from Fabi, hamburgers from Carango, hot dogs from Geneal, Las Empanadas, açaí bikes and ice cream from Rico, GRK Products wines, sweets from Fabiana D’Angelo and gourmet bags from Bikelê.

Further to the right, looking at Pião do Prado, the Tribuna dos Profissionals will also receive a Belgian potato truck in the cone, pastel and yakissoba. Other dozens of food trucks and various stalls for all tastes will be at Tribuna B.

For children, there will be a special participation by the Globo channel and the characters Lady Bug and Cat Noir in Tribuna B, a space totally dedicated to the family and kids with the recreations and exhibitors of Burburinho, which will be celebrating its 10th edition during the festival on Saturday and Sunday.

In the Betting Room, photographer Christian Odevall will exhibit photos that are part of the Backstage book, which shows the backstage of Vilas Hípicas and the professionals who take care of the horses that compete in the races at the hippodrome.

Denis Linhares will bring the event's exclusive headgear over the weekend. The traditional parade of models and guests with hats is scheduled for Sunday.

After the race for the Brazilian GP on Sunday, the hippodrome will receive a light show with more than 100 drones for a separate show in celebration of the 90th edition of the biggest national racing party.

The president of the Brazilian Jockey Club, Raul Lima Neto, celebrates the 90th edition of the event. “After the pandemic, when we had to make much smaller versions of the GP, it is very gratifying to resume in style, at a time when the city is pulsing, once again hosting major events,” he highlights. He also recalls the importance of events for the city's economy: "The hippodrome space has received and will receive throughout 2022 important events, with support from the most varied public and also private spheres, and this only reinforces how fundamental they are for the generation of jobs and development in Rio de Janeiro.”
