Eliane Nunes: “Salsa sees gaming legalization coming as it will be beneficial for Brazil”

Eliane Nunes, Director of Marketing & Communication at Salsa Technology, is excited about the second edition of BiS. In conversation with GMB, she stated that Brazil is going through a fantastic moment in the finalization of the sports betting regulation process and this could contribute to the legalization of other gaming verticals. “The regulatory framework for gaming was approved in the Chamber of Deputies and it was a 'little push', a reminder of what a regulated market can do for the country's economy,” she said.

Salsa, a leading technology provider for the gaming sector in Latin America, will once again participate in the Brazilian iGaming Summit, presenting its solutions not only for the Brazilian market, but for the entire Latin America market. The company's Director of Marketing & Communication, Eliane Nunes, talks about the event and the current situation in the country.

GMB – What are your expectations on BiS 2022 and about your participation in the event?
Eliane Nunes
– Last year, at the event's premiere, the entire Latin American market was there, so to speak, longing to meet. Business did not stop during the pandemic and of course they happened during the event, but we believe that this second edition will be even more conducive to closing partnerships.

What are your company's most important services and products to serve the Brazilian gaming market?
Salsa is a leading technology provider for the sector in Latin America, mainly because we have Brazil and all of LatAm in our DNA. One of our main products is Salsa Omni, our omnichannel platform, which is the heart of the iGaming operation, through which operators can manage their players and all the functionality of the operation, such as deposits, withdrawals, promotions, etc.

Another highlight of our portfolio is Salsa Gator, the game content aggregator that has the largest library of titles focused on the region. There are more than 70 partner providers and 5,000 games between slots, video bingos, live table games, virtual games, instant games, skill games, and much more. Not to mention Salsa Studio, an absolute specialist in localized game development and engagement champions.

How do you analyze Brazil's growth in the gaming segment and what are your expectations regarding the regulation of sports betting in the country?
The market has matured a lot, mainly since the end of 2018, when the law that approved sports betting in the country was published. Since then, the sector has been actively participating with the Ministry of Economy in the debate that will culminate in the choice of the regulatory model for Brazil, which now, in fact, has a deadline to happen. We trust that the first licenses will already be in force next year.

At what point do you see the local gaming market in general and its evolution from a political and regulatory point of view?
Since the adoption of the sports betting law, there was an expectation that it would have a direct impact on the maturity and objectivity of the debate on the regulatory framework for gaming, which was finally approved in the Chamber of Deputies and is awaiting deliberation by the Federal Senate. It is important to note that it was a "little push", a reminder of what a regulated market can do for the country's economy, but there are many people working for the cause for a long time and media such as GMB have always been giving voice to this debate. We've taken a big step and the visibility of brands linked to sports betting is a true demonstration of the size of this industry and the general benefit that regulation brings to society as a whole. Even so, many years of taboos have been undermined and therefore our expectation is that the Senate will vote on the landmark after this year's elections.

With the regulation of sports betting, does Salsa have plans to grow in Brazil and contribute even more to the local market?
Salsa has many plans for Brazil and Latin America, and we are already working on these plans, such as the development of a 100% certified native sports betting platform that we will launch later this year. We recently obtained our license from the MGA (Malta Gaming Authority) which will guarantee us even greater access in Europe and, of course, the possibility of bringing successful solutions to LatAm in other markets, but with our localization touch. In addition, we have a Salsa Studio expansion plan that will allow us to significantly increase our native game portfolio.
