Another bill in progress in the Chamber of Deputies that uses lottery resources to finance amateur sports in public schools. This time, the proposal is that part of the proceeds from lotteries operated by Caixa Econômica Federal be passed on as a prize to schools that play school games organized by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB).
The Finance and Taxation Committee of the Chamber of Deputies approved Bill 2084/15, by deputy Alexandre Leite (União-SP), The proposal is for conclusive analysis by the Constitution and Justice and Citizenship Committee.
According to the project, the money will be distributed among the states whose public elementary and high schools obtain the first three places in any sport, collective or individual.
The amendment previously approved by the Sports Commission still makes it mandatory for public schools to participate free of charge in all championships promoted by the Brazilian Confederation of School Sports (CBDE).
The rapporteur, Deputy Felipe Rigoni (União-ES), recommended the approval of the proposal. "The project has an essentially normative character, promoting only a reallocation of resources destined to the public financing of national sport, not causing repercussions on the revenue or expenditure of the Union," he said.
