FuboTV now integrates gambling into live sporting events

FuboTV will soon allow users to place bets on live sports. Some of them will be able to place bets using real money, while everyone can participate in free contests. But customers in Iowa and Arizona can place real money bets on winning teams.

As of June 19, all FuboTV users will be able to predict the outcome of live matches. Before the start of the selected games, they will be able to choose which team they think will win. This will give them points – not real money – which will give them a spot on the leaderboard, allowing them to compete against friends and other FuboTV users. FuboTV calls this game Perfect Pick'ems and says it plans to launch other competitions in the future.

But users in Iowa and Arizona can place bets on winning teams with real money. If a user thinks they have picked the winning choice, they can scan a QR code that appears on the FuboTV platform. This will redirect them to Fubo Sportsbook (FuboTV's betting app) to place a cash bet.

FuboTV previously allowed users to place bets through its Sportsbook app as live games progressed, but betting was never integrated into the streaming service's TV interface.

“Our mission is to transform the TV experience through interactive engagement, including free games and real money betting, into streaming video,” said David Gandler, co-founder and CEO of FuboTV, in a statement.

Like the live betting features offered by other services such as DAZN and Sling, FuboTV's gaming features face a major hurdle that is slowly disappearing: legality.

In 2018, the Supreme Court repealed a law making sports gambling illegal, meaning that individual states are free to choose whether they want to legalize sports gambling and its various forms.

As states move to loosen restrictions, other key services should offer users a way to get into the game, with Disney even exploring ways to integrate the game with ESPN.
