Fabio Tibéria has been specializing, in recent years, in the area of crypto-assets in the iGaming market and, in his opinion, the new alternatives, involving the use of cryptocurrencies, fan tokens and NFTs, are already a reality and will be very beneficial for the sector. This will be the backbone of his presentation during the Brazilian iGaming Summit and, in his opinion, Brazil is already mature enough to regulate sports betting and, “in a logical sequence, encompass other verticals in the bill.”
GMB - What will be the main topics that you intend to address in your lecture and what is your vision of the current moment of the gaming and betting sector in Brazil?
Fabio Tibéria - I would like to thank the organizers of BiS and Games Magazine Brasil for the invitation and the possibility of being able to contribute to this project and attend such an important event. The lecture will focus on new financial alternatives for the iGaming sector. We will specifically talk about cryptocurrencies, e-wallets, Fan tokens and NFT.
How do you analyze Brazil's growth in the sports betting segment, still in the process of regulation, and how do you believe that the activity will be explored in time to take advantage of the Qatar World Cup?
Honestly, I think it is difficult, due to the complexity of the matter, for the law to be implemented until the World Cup. Despite not being regulated, the sports betting sector shows an exponential growth trend, as witnessed by the investments of multinationals in media and sponsorship of the various football teams in recent years.
At what point do you see the local gaming market in general and its evolution from a political and regulatory point of view?
The government is making a big effort to catalyze the regulatory process and coordinate the ideological and political part of each party. It is important to consider that more than 500,000 families in Brazil live on this. It is necessary that regulation is not a "red card" for Brazilians, but the possibility of integrating the "unregulated" market in a global investment project. Therefore, it is necessary to address investments not only in technological infrastructure, but also in labor supply. Collection and reduction of unemployment should be the scope of regulation.
How can new financial alternatives and payment methods create a new world in the field of gaming and betting?
One of the most plausible motivations is spending. We know that today the average cost between deposit and withdrawal on a gaming platform is around 5%. With cryptocurrencies it could reach 0.007%. The impact on the total cost is significant and evident. This technology provides high security standards in transactions, data management and KYC.
Were the results of your company's work this year as expected? Do you have plans in Brazil to grow and contribute even more to the local market?
The results this year were excellent. My technology company is international, interacts with the biggest global technology providers and operates heavily here in Brazil. I provide technology, licenses, legal assistance, risk management .... in short, the "know how" necessary to succeed in this sector. And this meets the needs of the market, as more and more entrepreneurs want to invest in our segment.
About new businesses, the Brazilian people have incredible entrepreneurial courage, creative intelligence and intuition. Despite being Italian, I feel half Brazilian for culture and admiration. My plans are to always contribute more to a local market that must be preserved and protected. The main actor in the regulation must be the Brazilian people.
With the regulation of sports betting, do you believe that the other gaming verticals could gain momentum for their legalization in Brazil?
It should be a logical consequence to include verticals in the bill. Sports betting is a complex structure that is evolving every day. Collection from sports betting alone does not represent an expressive number like other verticals unless a regulation with very high taxes is developed. Anyway, regulating only sports betting is like having a guitar with only one string.
