Skilrock, an international company part of the Sugal & Damani Group conglomerate, Indian leader in the segment, is a provider of lottery and gaming systems, omni-gaming, omni-channel, which has been seeking to consolidate its presence in Latin America. They recently started a successful instant lottery operation in Colombia and last year they registered for the Lottery of the State of Maranhão.
Due to this proximity to the Latin market and increasingly attentive to the movements of state lotteries in Brazil, the company participated in the Brazilian iGaming Summit to get even closer to possible local partners.
In an exclusive conversation with GMB, Alexandre Tauszig, the company's LATAM regional manager, highlighted the level of BiS, pointing it out as a reference for the gaming and lottery sector in Brazil. “We made a point of returning to the event and to demonstrate our company's commitment to the Brazilian market, we had the participation of our CEO, Sujit Lahiry, and the VP of Sales and Marketing, Avinash Thakur,” he commented.
GMB - Skilrock is a company that has been increasingly dedicating itself to the Brazilian state lottery market and was present at the Brazilian iGaming Summit. What is your impression of the event?
Alexandre Tauszig - First I would like to say that this event is being a reference in Brazil. We participated in December and it was a great success. We were very impressed with the public's acceptance and made a point of participating now in the second.
To talk a little about the company's commitment to Brazil, three executives from India came; our CEO, Sujit Lahiry, the VP of Sales and Marketing, Avinash Thakur, in addition to a stakeholder from our parent company. We understand that Brazil is the hot ball in the gaming market, especially in the lottery sector. Skilrock comes from a group that has 50 years of experience with lotteries in India, where it is the largest operator, and we are in 29 other countries. We understand that Latin America is where we need to act now, where we must put our forces, that's why the focus is so great here and especially in Brazil.
How has Skilrock approached the states that are seeking to state their lottery operations?
It's an excellent question. In fact, outside India we are not operators, but technology providers. So, with regard to state lotteries, this will depend a lot on how each one of them will act. State lotteries that want to act independently, we can be a provider of systems, technology and innovation. As for those companies that are going to seek concessions, we will act as a service provider for an operator that becomes accredited and becomes a concessionaire. In any case, we are seeking to approach lotteries through our worldwide experience in many countries, trying to bring information and technology into a dialogue regardless of whether we are a supplier of them or not. I remind you that Skilrock is a member of the WLA - Word Lottery Association and CIBLAE - Ibero-American Corporation of State Lotteries and Gambling, as gold associate members we bring to these entities a lot of information in terms of technology, what can be improved, the best operation and this we have also tried to bring to the lotteries here in Brazil.
In other words, is participating in a sports betting event where lotteries are also in focus important for the company's growth in Brazil?
It's very important. Here, the regulation of sports betting is still a big question mark whether it will come out or not; the deadline is very tight. But, there has also been a lot of talk about sports betting being together with state lotteries. For that, any lottery modality, whether sports, lotto, instant, or any other type of activity, needs to have a good technology provider behind it and we hope to be that provider for many companies in Brazil.
Even for sports betting?
Including. You see, the general public may not have a notion of everything that is behind a system, the technology of a bet. You have online betting. For them, it's no use having just the platform and the games; it is also necessary to have an intelligent management of the players. How to manage the account, affiliation, attraction, retention, responsible gaming and everything in between. When the game leaves online and goes to the street, you have to manage the sales channel in all its hierarchy, commissioning, fraud and security. All of this we can control with our system. Having a good technology provider that has the ability to provide security for the operator and the lottery is super important. And we hope to be that for everyone here in Brazil.
