Chamber approves nursing minimum wage in first round, gaming is defended for funding

Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies approved this Tuesday (12), in first round, the Constitutional Amendment Proposal (PEC in Portuguese) for the Nursing Minimum Wage, with 425 positive votes and 7 negative. The Plenary still needs to analyze a modification introduce para political party Novo. Voting can be resumed today (13). The rapporteur of PEC 11/22, deputy Carmen Zanotto, said that the salary increase in the category could be funded by the legalization of the gaming sector.

Authored by the Senate, the Nursing Floor PEC determines that a federal law will establish national professional salary floors for nurses, nursing technicians, nursing assistants and midwives, to be observed by legal entities governed by public law and private.

The PEC rapporteur, deputy Carmen Zanotto (Citizenship-SC), said that the approval of the proposal will prevent judicial questioning of the floor, provided for in Bill 2564/20. “To avoid any risk of judicialization, any risk of veto, because it is not in the Federal Constitution that we work for PEC 11 to give more legal security to the national floor of nursing professionals,” she said.

Zanotto said that nursing needs recognition and a decent salary, highlighting the role of nurses in the arrest of anesthesiologist Giovanni Bezerra, caught in the act after raping a patient during a cesarean delivery. “The nurse set up a recording. Otherwise, it would not be possible to prove the harm caused by that professional,” she pointed out.

The deputy also stated that the salary increase for the category could be financed by the legalization of the gaming sector and other measures such as payroll tax relief, oil royalties, state-owned profits and the unused balance of the resources provided for in the State of Emergency PEC (PEC 15/ 22), which should also be voted on this Wednesday (13).
