Operating for almost seven years in the Brazilian market, Pagsmile specializes in serving customers in the gaming and sports betting area, offering a safe and agile product. Marlon Tseng, General Manager of the company, spoke exclusively with GMB and commented that Pagsmile “always has a very high concern for the user experience. GMB - How is business going in Brazil for Pagsmile?
Marlon Tseng - It has grown year after year. I think sports betting has become very popular, especially because of the correlation between football and this industry. Everyone knows that Brazil is the country of football. So, people have seen it more and more on TV, being impacted by the commercials of these platforms, of the operators, and it has created this affinity with football; so it has grown a lot.
And today, payment methods are already more on people's minds, especially because of the pandemic that made everyone more familiar with online. Did that open doors for Pagsmile?
Certainly. Along with PIX, which also brought this revolution here in Brazil. I think it's one of the most advanced payment methods in the world. I haven't seen anywhere in the world that has such a complex ecosystem that brought together all the banks and fintechs working together in this system. So, PIX ended up consolidating this online world, bringing a lot of ease when making a payment, withdrawal and along with that the ease of buying online.
Is your payment method platform easily integrated with sports betting?
It is, yes. We are always very concerned about the user experience. I came from the gaming industry, I came from the other side, so we recognize users difficulties, the problems when it comes to making payments. That's why we always think about the best way to optimize the user experience when they go to the payment page. Make it more fluid, simpler, and of course, as safe as possible too.
Now just wait for the regulation of betting to grow even more in the Brazilian market?
Exactly. The regulation provides a guide for operators, fintechs and payment methods to know what the rules will be like. There are people who use a rule, companies do it in one way, some in another, there is no standardization. I think that with something that will bring the right direction, people will follow right, as it should be done. So, I think it will bring about a better hegemony of the industry and the entire ecosystem.
