Councilor proposes creation of municipal lottery in Canguçu

Councilor Madrid filed a bill with the Municipality of Canguçu (RS) creating the Canguçu Lottery – LOTOCAN. The resources from LOTOCAN will be allocated to the health areas – covering the Canguçu Charity Hospital, APAE, Home for the Elderly and the Municipal Council for Children and Adolescents.

The Canguçu Municipal Lottery was proposed taking into account the decision of the Brazil’s STF that allowed federated entities to explore the activity along the lines of the Union.

In Rio Grande do Sul, some cities already have legislation in this regard, such as Porto Alegre, which has already been approved, and Pelotas, which is being processed by the Executive.

Councilor Madrid emphasizes that the resources from LOTOCAN will be destined to the health areas - covering the Canguçu Charity Hospital, APAE, Lar dos Idosos and Municipal Council for Children and Adolescents, through special municipal funds for each area to be created . The percentages for each area will be defined by decree of the mayor.

Under the project, the municipality will be able to explore all lottery models used by the Union and the State of Rio Grande do Sul.

According to councilor Madrid, “the possibility of creating the Loteria de Canguçu – LOTOCAN, will be a new source of revenue for the municipality, to minimize a little the difficulties faced in health, the elderly, APAE and young essential sectors for all of us.”

“Everyone who knows me knows that my struggle in this area is old and necessary, so I believe it is possible to combine the fun of the lottery with health,” the councilor added.
