Entrepreneur with over 41 years of experience in the hotel market in Rio de Janeiro, Alexandre Sampaio is president of the Brazilian Federation of Accommodation and Food (FBHA) and also of the Tourism and Hospitality Business Council of the National Confederation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism ( Cetur/CNC), which brings together more than 20 tourism business associations, in addition to tourism representatives in the Trade Federations in the States.
In an interview with Diario do Turismo, Alexandre made a diagnosis of the post-covid hospitality, commerce, goods, services and tourism sector, adding the experience of those who circulate and understand the legal mechanisms and all the jurisprudence of the sector. In addition, he talks about the work of his entity with parliamentarians in the sense of trying to strengthen ties with people who can improve the business environment for national tourism.
Asked if he believes that the legalization of gambling in Brazil can still happen in a vote in the Chamber, Sampaio was tatando: “Not in this election year, being possible in the next government.”
For him, the release of the activity in the country would help the hotel sector a lot: “Brazilian tourism cannot close its eyes to the international reality and perpetuate itself as an ‘island’, oblivious to the demands of the tourist market. Undeniably, the casinos would represent the inflow of foreign exchange and promotion of tourism, in line with article 180 of the Federal Constitution, with an increase in tax collection and jobs”.
Sampaio is also clear and forceful about his choice of the ideal model for the legalization of the activity. “In turn, I believe that the ideal model would be autonomous casinos, without restrictions on population índices,” says the president of the FBHA.
Sampaio is also a member of the National Tourism Council of the Ministry of Tourism; coordinator of the Brazilian Committee for Standardization in Tourism (CB54), body for planning, coordinating and controlling rules related to Tourism of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT).
With a degree in Accounting, he was president of SindRio (Union of Bars and Restaurants of Rio de Janeiro) between 2002 and 2010, when he assumed the presidency of the FBHA.
