“It's a mixture of utopia, ambition and confidence. Utopia because sport is a sector with extraordinary potential. Despite its potential and its social function, it is a sector that faces very important challenges, complex, sophisticated challenges of a global nature. That's why they require global solutions. It is this united front that SIGA represents. That is why we are here, to create a vision of the future of good governance and integrity from Brazil and throughout Latin America. It is a strong sign of encouragement and confidence,” said Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, Global CEO and co-founder of SIGA, also named chairman and CEO of SIGA Latin America.
A dinner in São Paulo marked the official launch of SIGA Latin America. In addition to representatives from SIGA and Pacto Pelo Esporte, the event was attended by representatives of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB), the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) and the NGO Atletas Pelo Brasil, including Olympic medalists Flávio Canto and Kelly Santos. CEOs of the signatory companies of the Pact for Sport also attended.
“It is a historic moment for the sport. It is a moment of union with an international organization of which we have been members since 2018. We are joining and opening SIGA Latin America. The idea is that an international coalition can further strengthen a national coalition,” said Daniela Castro, executive director of Pacto Pelo Esporte.
SIGA's objective is to promote the highest standards of integrity and good governance in sport as part of a global reform to restore the industry's reputation and regain its credibility. To this end, SIGA will work with the main public and private actors in a dialogue for constructive cooperation.
SIGA Latin America is the third continental expansion of SIGA, a European organization based in the Swiss city of Geneva. SIGA Europe and SIGA America, from the United States, were the first expansions of the coalition, which has plans to implement SIGA Asia.
