Mega Millions jackpot exceeds US$ 1 billion, causes sales frenzy in Brazil

theLotter, one of the world's largest online lottery service, is reporting the sale of a large number of lottery tickets in Latin America after the US Mega Millions rolled over on Tuesday (26) night. The Mega Millions jackpot rose to US$1.02 billion after no one matched the numbers in the draw. Eager to participate in today night's (29) draw, an increasing number of Brazilians are also using theLotter's online lottery service.

According to Forbes, Lionel Messi, Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lebron together earned US$461.2 million last year. Whoever wins this Mega Millions jackpot will take more than double that amount. "It reminds me of 2016 and 2018," says Adrian Cooremans, theLotter spokesperson.

"First, in January 2016, the Powerball rose to US$1.586 billion: an amount that was won and shared by three people. Mega Millions itself set a record in October 2018 when a single player in South Carolina won the jackpot of US$1.537 billion, the biggest win by a single person in the history of the lottery. If the US$1.02 billion Mega Millions jackpot is not won, it will rise again to this all-time high. And why not be won by a Brazilian? Our many previous winners have collected their winnings in cash, including our US$30 million jackpot winner from Panama. It is these winners that have reinforced our customers' confidence in Latin America," he recalls.

How does the company provide this service? “We are a European company officially regulated and licensed by the Maltese government. Our couriers buy official paper tickets on behalf of customers who order online,” says Cooremans.

"Competitive betting sites only purchase an insurance policy to cover the possibility that customer numbers will match - they do not actually buy tickets. We have always adhered to lottery rules and laws in the countries in which we operate. Our past winners have been checked by federal and state agencies, with it always being concluded that theLotter and the winners were acting in accordance with lottery rules and the law."
