GLI, a global testing, certification and professional services company for the global gambling industry, has closely followed the course of regulation of sports betting in Brazil and has made available to the government and other players in the sector all its technical knowledge about the activity.
Karen Sierra-Hughes, VP Latin America and the Caribbean at GLI, told GMB that the company is ready for Brazil, “as we do in all parts of the world and especially in Latin America and the Caribbean. The idea is to be ready to respond not only to regulators, but also to our industry – operators and providers.”
Válter Delfraro Jr., responsible for the Brazil business development area at GLI, told GMB that he expects betting regulation to come out after the elections. “We are doing our job and trying to help them [government and industry actors] in the best way we can and define technical requirements, so that when it comes out, it will be a solid, structured market with the best practices in the industry,” he highlighted.
GMB – How was the Brazilian iGaming Summit for GLI?
Valter Delfraro Jr. - A success. More than we expected. We met with many customers, partners and future customers from all segments: lotteries, operators and software providers. We are very pleased with our participation and reinforcing what GLI always says: we have to be where our customer needs us. And that's what we're doing here.
Karen, you spoke at a panel on the regulation of sports betting. How is the Brazilian market for GLI?
Karen Sierra-Hughes – Very interesting, and with a lot of interest from the world market of all jurisdictions, including international regulators about what will happen in Brazil in this regard. In addition to what Valter mentioned, I would like to emphasize the government's participation, with the different government entities that came to hear and see what is happening at this conference, not only deputies, but also the Secretariat [of Competition and Competitiveness Advocacy of the Ministry of Economy]. Everyone who is following from a government point of view and listening to what we have to say about our gaming industry.
And do you believe that regulation will come out soon, Válter?
What I can repeat is what I just heard: I hope it comes out after the elections. Anyway, we are doing our job and trying to help them in the best way that we can define technical requirements, so that when it comes out, it will be a solid, structured market with the best practices in the industry. We're here for that.
