Riot Games celebrates 10 years of League of Legends in Brazil

Ten years ago, Brazilians witnessed the arrival of League of Legends (LOL) in the country and, over the years, it has remained one of the most played electronic games today, with its popularity leveraged by an extremely passionate community of players and fans that doesn't stop growing. And Riot Games is preparing a great tribute.

On August 9, 2012, the game server was turned on in Brazil and Riot Games carried out a campaign that honors the main character that built this story: the community in love with LOL.

In this period of 10 years, LOL has consolidated itself in Brazil not only as a game, but as a vector of real connections between its players and a strong influence on pop culture, taking its characters beyond the game to music, with ultra popular music bands; for fashion and also for the audiovisual universe, with the success of Arcane, on Netflix, which gathered a legion of fans even among non-gamers.

Therefore, the developer and distributor Riot Games, celebrating a decade since the LOL server was made available in Brazil, launches a campaign that focuses on making the LOL community increasingly proud of the universe they are part of and helped build over time.

The kick-off of the celebration brings a video with a retrospective that shows characters and events that marked this decade. In 3 minutes, epic plays were gathered, the lines that most resonated in the community, the jargon and memes that went viral, the personalities that stood out, the episodes that inflamed the fans and fans in famous moments of the game in Brazil. As a true celebration, those who are a “root fan” of Lolzinho will recognize themselves when reviewing YoDa's Circo de Soled, the first edition of CBLOL in 2012 and many other remarkable passages.

This video proves that LOL is not just a game, it brings many connections between its players, generating a sense of pride among those who are part of this community,” highlights Diego Martinez, general manager of Riot Games in Brazil.

For Riot Games, the League of Legends community is not only the reason the game has become a phenomenon in Brazil, it is also the reason why the company works to bring high quality, innovation and creativity to every experience that delivers to it, from player support, to the location of super local content and campaigns, through eSports championships, to the launch of new games and experiences, such as animations and music,” reinforces Martinez.

According to him, “in the last 10 years, the Brazilian player was largely responsible for transforming LOL into a lifestyle, through his encounters, memes, stories and influencers. We are not celebrating 10 years of League of Legends in Brazil, but 10 years of Brazil in LOL.”

In all our actions, from developing games and broadcasting eSports championships, to the many other experiences we produce, the focus is always on players and fans. We challenge ourselves every day to bring them joy, content that is innovative and creative and, of course, authentic to the League of Legends experience, because we respect and celebrate players. The 10th anniversary of League in Brazil is the perfect occasion to celebrate them once again, this time with the Brazilian community, which is one of the most passionate we see - and it is this love and dedication that motivates us and reinforces our commitment. that we've had with League for many years," says Nicolo Laurent, CEO of Riot Games.

Exclusive graffiti LOL BR X takes over capitals across Brazil

As part of the tribute to 10 years of LOL in Brazil, Riot Games decided to occupy the cities of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Recife and Curitiba, with graffiti in the midst of local architecture to celebrate the game's trajectory in the country. The works are signed by partner artists and honor the characters most used by players in their respective cities, as well as references to the region and its community of players. The works also bring the Summoner names (a kind of nickname in the game) of some players who have been active on the server since 2012, as well as their achievements and characters they played with the most.

In Sao Paulo capital city, the place chosen for the mural was the intersection of Avenida 23 de Maio and Avenida Brigadeiro Luís Antônio, one of the most famous and traditional in Sao Paulo. The drawing, made by the artist Bruno Mota, who is recognized in the Sao Paulo graffiti and illustration scene, with a strong influence of urban aesthetics and pop and oriental culture, brings references to the champions Yasuo and Yone, the most used by LOL players in SP, in addition to honoring characters such as Tibers and Vi.

For cariocas (born in Rio de Janeiro), it will be possible to contemplate the art of Acme, in Largo da Prainha, a busy region in the south of the state capital. The graffiti artist, Acme is the creator of works in several countries and states of Brazil, with participation in permanent collections such as the National Historical Museum, the Folklore Museum and the Favela Museum (RJ), of which he is a founding partner.

In Recife, the place chosen was Bar Iraq, on Rua do Sossego, one of the best known in the neighborhood of Boa Vista. The place is famous for hosting an alternative audience from the artistic and cultural scene in Pernambuco, and it welcomes Chico Shiko, a Brazilian comic artist who currently lives in Florence, whose great works are the adaptation of famous graphic novels.

Praça do Redentor, a famous spot in the neighborhood of Francisco, is the chosen place in Curitiba to receive the mural by artist Marcella Calado, a designer and illustrator with great inspiration in the female universe.

Exclusive missions in the League of Legends game

And of course the main character of this celebration - the community - will not fail to be presented with in-game content. In addition to the aforementioned tributes, Brazilian players will have 3 exclusive missions in the game, which when completed, will deliver rewards such as icons and emotes, free in Brazil.

These exclusive items were inspired by remarkable moments of this decade of League of Legends in Brazil, translated in the form of memes and expressions made viral by fans - this is yet another way of praising the importance of engagement and community involvement for LOL to be what yes,” explains Diego Martinez.

The missions are already in League of Legends in Brazil and are until September 21, after which the items and emotes will be available for sale on other servers around the world.
